![]() The members of the legal system are the ones who need to formulate new laws or the removal of outdated ones, while the judges, their main purpose is to sentence those who break said laws. I believe that lawyers are powerless to the law of the land and they only abide by what has already been discussed and put into policy. I believe the main responsibilities of leading a charge and change are members of the legal system and judges. This platform enlightened me on the topics of: Redlining, Color Blindness and how it is now deemed to not be the most efficient way to improve equality and the Home Owner Loan Act and its effects. I like to take pride in believing how informed I am with social issues and today's policies, but I can fully admit, what I know, seemed like only the tip of the iceberg for the struggles people of color go through. I was very much unaware of the historical and political policies that were implemented in the past decade. The need and fight for representation, diversity, and inclusion is on-going and we hope you will join us on this journey. There are examples of best practices and not so great practices. The program looks at how leaders in corporations, sports, and entertainment have handled and utilized their platforms to generate awareness. Through our Social Justice, Implicit Bias, and Cause Marketing platform Breaking BarrierZ will examine the various lens of social justice, implicit bias, and cause marketing. It is no longer a question about if a company should take part in cause marketing, but rather questioning a company that doesn’t. Even corporations and businesses are involved in the movement by recognizing the need for cause marketing. There is a need to understand implicit bias, not only to recognize it but to be aware of one’s own blind spots. However, there is a need for the future leaders of tomorrow to understand what social justice really is. Today’s society is less tolerable than ever to racial injustice and bias of any sort. In every instance it has meant sacrificing something important. Throughout history, leaders, athletes, and celebrities have utilized their platform for change. Access to resources, equity, participation, diversity, and human rights are the five main principals at the core of social justice. It’s more than just taking a knee or raising a fist, it’s the ongoing fight for human rights, more specifically equal rights. Social Justice is more than a buzzword or a movement. Breaking BarrierZ is committed to educating and empowering people in the fight for equality. ![]()
